- WIP;; working very hard to finish! '...' mean that quality has already been described: 12/40
There is not a lion in all the lands that is like Pythia. Sure, some lions are healers and some are prophetesses, but none have her unique spirit, abilities and quirks.
She readily feels, and shows, her tenderness to others and she is rarely anything but gentle towards others. Pythiais gentle, but also very honest, sometimes bluntly so (without meaning to be). She is a very happy and hopeful lion, often showing blind faith in both those that have earned it and those that have not. She has many dreams and wishes that they could all be accomplished. Her happy dreamer ways are considered by most to be very charming, and generally it is hard to resist loving Thia.
She is extremely opinionated, often frustratingly so, but she is also very open to the ideas and oddities of others. She feels as though she has no right to judge most, and is very understanding of most lions. However, she is often used as a judge during games and trials in her pride because she is very unbiased. Pythia always listens to all sides of a situation and makes the best decision based on the information given by everyone, and she never shows favoritism.
Often times lions come to her to talk in confidence that she will not tell anyone of their worries. Pythia never betrays the trust of others unless it is necessary. She is fiercely loyal and will follow those that have earned her trust to the ends of Earth and back. Once her trust and loyalty are earned, there is hardly anything that will break them.
◘ sleeping habits
- Pythia has a few, well, oddities when it comes to sleeping.
She has a bed of feathers in her den, but she can only sleep on this bed if it is not a new moon. This bed must have precisely five blue feathers where her head will rest, and, above all, it must have the dust of two crushed vines sprinkled over it once a month. Otherwise, she will not sleep. These things are to ward off evil and protect her while she sleeps.
During new moons, she must make a bed of grass and sleep on it. This bed of grass must be sprinkled with crushed black roses, and must have two red feathers where her tail will rest. Pythia must make an unbroken line of white sand at the entrance of her den. These things protect her while she sleeps and honors all of the lives that have been lost over the years.
She also prefers to sleep with a bowl of water to the left of her den's entrance. This is for any spirits that may wonder into her den while she slumbers. The water is supposed to provide them with refreshment and help them on their journey back to the underworld. It is a sign of respect and honor.
These rituals used to be commonly practiced by their ancestors, but have all but died out in modern day. Pythia is one of very few neua lions that still believes in these practices.
- Pythia is an avid feather collector.
She has a very large collection of all sorts of feathers-- blue feathers, large feathers, striped feathers, feathers colored rainbow. She uses some of her feathers, generally the soft, fluffy white ones that come from ostriches, to make herself a comfortable bed in her den. Other feathers, such as small red feathers of a frigatebird, to make incense and to help heal others.
Pythia began collecting feathers as a very young cub. She used to be drawn to purple and green feathers especially, and loved to put them in her hair. Thia loved to make necklaces and bracelets to wear of these magnificent green and purple feathers. However, as Pythia got older she stopped wearing feathers as they could interfere with her healing. She still makes feather accessories as gifts to other lions and occasionally wears them for formal rituals.
- She has always been fascinated by vines.
As a cub, Pythia used to try balancing on hanging vines and swinging on them. She got endless amounts of joy from swinging on them, especially if she could manage to stand up while swinging. She could often have been found in the forests batting repeatedly at the vines. At one point, Pythia believed that they were the cut hair of gods and that was why they were so strong.
When she was very young, Pythia thought the concept of a vine was horrific, yet beautiful. It was something that lived off of another being, and often times caused a lot of harm to it's host, which horrified her beyond belief. However, it was only trying to survive and was an essential part of their ecosystem, and Thia thought that this was wondrous.
Growing up, Pythia's fascination with vines led her to experiment with them. Part of her wanted to prove that her 'crazy' notion about vines being connected to the gods. It seemed to her that if they were indeed connected to the gods that she would be able to put them to use somehow. After becoming the main healer of her pride, Pythiaexperimented with using vines to help heal others. She discovered that some vines were more useful than roots.
- Thia is, in a manner of speaking, a workaholic.
She's always been someone that dove into something and committed to it fully, even as a cub, so why should her work be any different? If anything, she has even more reason to be committed to her work.
Pythia spends almost all of her time healing others. The time that she doesn't spend healing is spent gathering more supplies, experimenting with more ways to heal, writing down prophecies and foretold events, writing down spells, practicing spells and mentoring future healers and prophets/prophetesses. She gets nearly no free time and what little she does get she seems to not want to except and busies herself with work-relating things anyways.
Thia's tendency to put all of herself into her work has caused meant a great deal of sacrifice, including not having a mate or cubs. She could easily have both of these things, and she could easily take less time working, but Pythiaputs all of herself into her work so that she doesn't have to put any of herself into personal relations. It's a sort of defense mechanism because she's scared of being hurt.
- Pythia's eyesight is a bit strange.
She's mostly color blind in her her right eye, and can only see colors around the edge of her vision field. This doesn't really have much impact on her, as she doesn't really care that she's partially color blind. Her sight in her left eye is mostly normal-- proper depth perception and color, clear.
However, it's still different than others' sight. In her left eye, she can actually see more than others can. She can see auras around people, based on their current aura, and she can see colors representing how they feel. Sometimes, she may even see the words they speak as a color based on their tone, etc. Pythia may also see a lion's god standing next to them.
Both eyes have these abilities, but it's mostly useless in her right eye since she cannot see color.
- She is very afraid of large birds.
While Thia might love collecting feathers, she's not very fond of birds. Small birds, sure, she likes them decently enough. Big birds, no. She is very terrified of large birds, and will gladly admit they make her uneasy to be anywhere near them. Pythia has never been very fond of large birds.
As a cub she used to do anything to avoid them, but the other cubs seemed to always want to chase them around. One of the other cubs' favorite games was chasing ostriches and cornering them. Pythia took part in this game several times, though she didn't enjoy it, to fit in some.
During one game an ostrich retaliated, charging at the group of cubs, and one of the other cubs was killed. This was the point when Thia began to really fear them, and since then she will not step foot near an ostrich.
- Pythia has a very strong love for fruit.
Many others may call it an obsession, but she doesn't believe that she's obsessed with it. She just greatly enjoys the way that fruit taste. She can often be found with a large supply of fruit and eats it on a regular basis. Her favorite fruit are starfruit, avocado and bananas.
Thia has even began experimenting with using fruits to heal others, and, so far, it seems that fruit are more helpful than some herbs. Avocados, for example, are very useful for healing wounds of the eyes and face. Bananas are adept at speeding up the healing process of wounds. Starfruits can be used to help keep wounds from getting infected.
- She cannot swim very well.
As a cub, Pythia never learned how to swim properly. Her parents tried to teach her on more than one occasion, but she never seemed to want to learn. She was terrified of the river; it had strong currents, especially to a cub, and she had heard tale of large scaly beasts that could easily snatch a cub from it's parents. These made her very unwilling to get into the water, despite her parents best efforts.
Thia felt somewhat bad for refusing her parents, but she was sure she would never have to swim a river. After all, she planned on being a healer, not a warrior.
To this day, Pythia has never had to cross a river and thankfully so. She would likely drown if she had to cross a river, as she is still very poor at swimming. She has been meaning to learn for quite some time now, but she's never had occasion to, and she's far to busy working to take time off for such silly things.
- Thia has a fear of fire.
She can be near a fire for rituals, spells, healing and cooking. However, she is far from comfortable around fires and prefers not to get too close to them. Like many older lions, Pythia believes that fires are ugly things, meant to scorch and burn the soul. When an animal is cooked over a fire, it's said that the fire burns the soul away so that you will not become possessed.
Part of the reason she dislikes fires is because they scorch souls. Another reason is the damage that they do to their habitat. During the dry season, plains and forests are often lit ablaze by lightning. The fire can destroy the home of thousands in a matter of hours, and that is not something Pythia wants to mess with. It doesn't seem right for something to be so powerful unless it's the workings of the gods.
- She has a strong natural connection to stones.
Many lions have strong natural connections to things in nature. Pythia happens to be connected to stones, particularly onyx and jade. Her connection with these stones is stronger than most lions' connections with nature.
As a cub, Thia's grandmother nurtured her connection to stones. Her grandmother taught her that the connection was based in her heart, not mind, and to unlock more ability she needed to feel it, not think it. With her grandmother's guidance, Pythia soon became able to move stones without touching them, though only for a small distance. She was also taught to make stones glow faintly.
Pythia can now move stones as far as she would like and make them glow brighter than the stars. She has become so connected with stones that she can easily levitate them as well. With a bit more concentration and work, Pythiacan also get the stones to change shape. All of her abilities work best with jade and onyx, though, and it can be extremely difficult for her to work with some other types of stones.

-- Connection to the Gods --
◘ Patron God/Goddess ◘
Patron God/Goddess:
- Apollo, Greek god of the sun, dreams, reason, arts, knowledge, healing and prophecy.
- Pythia chose Apollo as her god for many reasons.
She's always had the ability to predict the future, and her wounds always seemed to heal faster than those of others. She also enjoyed watching the pride healer work and loved the idea of healing other lions. For these reasons, she believed that Apollo would be a logical choice.
Her belief that she could see the future often caused others to mockingly call her a seer, but she did not believe that this was accurate at all. A seer is an unholy creature that often lies, twists the future and words of others. Pythia used to have very vivid dreams that would later come true, especially as a child. These dreams slowly faded as she grew, disappointing her greatly.
Ultimately, she chose Apollo in hopes that she indeed had a gift that he would give back to her.
- Apollo chose Pythia to watch over for a lot of different reasons.
As a cub Pythia could look from her world to that of the gods. This was not a gift that was given to her by the gods, but it did allow her to see into the future. From the moment of her conception, Apollo was interested in her for this reason. He believed that it made her very powerful and very unique. Being the god of prophecy, he naturally wanted to have her as his own and fought hard for the right.
After her birth, she proved to be even more interesting. Pythia seemed to have a strong curiosity and loyalty, especially concerning her ability to see into the future. Apollo even noticed that her wounds healed much faster than other lion's. Once she became a healer in training, Pythia far surpassed other's ability to learn. Soon, she also surpassed her teacher's own ability to heal the ailments of others, quickly becoming one of the best healers ever to live.
- Their relationship is quite a bit more unique than most patron/lion relationships.
Pythia is very learned in both healing and prophecy. In fact, she's so skilled at them that she can talk to Apollo, both while awake and in dreams. He will appear to her to talk sometimes, and she has the ability to call him to her whenever she would like, despite him never giving her this ability.
Apollo is a patron god to many lions, and had been a patron god to many more, but he incredibly fond of Pythia. His love for her exceeds the love that most patrons have for their lions, and runs so deep that he needs no occasion to talk to her. Often he will seek her out simply because he enjoys her company.
Apollo has been rumored to help her heal some lions. It's also been rumored that Pythia is Apollo's gift to all of the world; that she is his pride, and he will always appear to her in times of need.
